1971年　14歳. 江藤俊哉に師事し、 1979年 桐朋学園大学音楽部付属ディプロマコース修了後、渡米。1984年 イェール大学院音楽科 （Yale School of music) 首席にて卒業後、 テネシー州ナッシュビル交響楽団コンサートマスター。帰国後2010年まで、大阪フィルハーモニー交響楽団コンサートマスター、及び東京交響楽団、札幌交響楽団等、日本の主要なオーケストラのゲストコンサートマスターを兼任。また、ソロ活動も韓国インチョン交響楽団、大阪フィルハーモニー交響楽団他と協奏曲を演奏するなど、国際的に活躍。

後進の育成にも力を入れ、桐朋学園大学音楽学部非常勤講師をはじめ、数多くの国際コンクール等の審査員を歴任。

数多くの国内外のコンクールで優勝者も排出している。近年では、指揮者として絶大な信頼を得、日本各地のオーケストラで活動を展開中。奈良県立ジュニアオーケストラ音楽監督。コーロ・ポエニクス（混声合唱団）音楽監督。

日本クラシック音楽コンクールより数多くの優勝入賞者を排出したことが認められ、５年連続優秀指導者賞の資格を得る。

Kazuto Umezawa studied at Toho Gakuen School of Music.

After finishing his diploma, he went to the U.S. and graduated from Yale
School of Music at the top of the list.

(He was the prize winner in Yale University concerto competition at Woolsey
Hall in 1983, giving ‘a highly personal intensity’ to the Bartok Violin
Concerto No. 2.)

He was appointed concertmaster of the Nashville Symphony.

After returning to Japan, he served as concertmaster of the Osaka
Philharmonic Orchestra (for over two decades).

In recent years, he has been dedicated to teaching and conducting as well as
performing as a soloist.
